About Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl Stadium is located on the campus of the University of Texas which is in El Paso. The first ever three matches were held at El Paso High School Stadium from 1935 to 1937. Soon it was moved to Kidd Field until the current stadium got ready to host the game in 1963. On January 1, 1935, the game was organized as a fund-raising event to support the El Paso Kiwanis Club. This club is working for the underprivileged children and provides financial assistance to El Paso High School Stadium, which was the first site to host the game. The teams that were playing in the game were El Paso high school all-stars, while the opposition team was the Ranger High School Bulldogs (Texas). All-Stars gained victory by 25-21 over Ranger High School Bulldogs, who were the 1934 state runner-ups.
The latest sponsor for the game is Brut and the game holds the title of Brut Sun Bowl. Helen Of Troy Limited is the owner of Brut, also it used to own Vitalis, which was the previous game sponsor. With effect from August 8, 2006, the name of the game was changed, as Helen of Troy extended the contract with the Sun Bowl Association till 2009. With the current name the game has marked the eighth change. From 1935-85 and then from 1994-95, it was known by the name Sun Bowl, which changed to John Hancock Sun Bowl in 1986 till 1989. It has seen numerous sponsors willing to sponsor the game the most recent one before Brut was Vitalis Sun Bowl from 2004 to 2005.
