South Carolina State University, a.k.a. SCSU, State College, SC State or just State, is a historically black university in Orangeburg, SC. It’s the only state-funded, historically black land-grant university in the state. It was established in 1896 under the 1862 Morrill Land Grant Act as the Colored, Normal, Industrial, Agricultural and Mechanical College of South Carolina.

About The South Carolina State Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are the school’s sports teams competing in the NCAA’s Division I and the school is a charter member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference; the football team competes in the Football Championship Subdivision. The school’s teams are: men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s bowling, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track, women’s soccer, volleyball and softball and men’s football.
The Bulldogs’ football team currently plays their home games in Oliver C. Dawson Stadium and has won more conference championships than any other school in the conference; it made wins in 1974, 75 (they shared the title with North Carolina A&T), 76 (they shared the title with Morgan State University), 77, 78, 80, 81, 82 (they shared the title with Florida A&M), 83, 94, and 2004 (they shared the title with Hampton University.) They also have 3 Black College Football National Championship titles; the most recent was won in 1994. The Bulldogs start the 2008 season against UCF in Orlando, FL on August 30. They return home to play Benedict on September 6. Then they go to Charleston, SC to play Bethune-Cookman on September 13, Clemson, SC to play Clemson on September 20, Winston-Salem, NC to play Winston-Salem on September 27 and Tallahassee, FL to play Florida A&M on October 4. They return home to play Norfolk State in the Homecoming game on October 11 and will stay home to play Hampton on October 25. After that, they go to Dover, DE to play Delaware State on November 1. They return home to play Howard on November 6. Then they travel to Baltimore, MD to play Morgan State on November 15; they will play North Carolina A&T on November 22, but the place has yet to be announced.
