The collegiate athletics and sports teams of San Diego State University are represented by the San Diego State Aztecs. They have highly organized facilities for various sports such as baseball, basketball, golf, gymnastics and football. A member of the Mountain West Conference, the Aztecs football team is a major fixture in the highest level of American collegiate football, NCAA-1 "Football Bowl Subdivision" league.
The Football team is based at Qualcomm Stadium. It is also the home stadium of the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League. The facility was formerly known as the San Diego Stadium and Jack Murphy Stadium and now it is also referred to as "The Q" and "The Murph." The football team's current head coach, Chuck Long, is an inductee of the College Football Hall of Fame. Chuck Long was the quarterback at the University of Iowa during his college days and had also played as a professional with the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions.
