About poinsettia bowl
The Poinsettia Bowl has come to a two-year agreement with the Pac-10 Conference, which allows the bowl to select the 7th placed team from the conference in the year 2008 and the sixth placed team in the year 2009. Apart from the general revenues, The Poinsettia Bowl has fulfilled its objective of generating tourism, exposure and economic benefit for the San Diego region, having an annual economic impact of nearly $8 million on the community.
In the inaugural match, The Navy Midshipmen defeated the Colorado State Rams by a margin of 51-30 in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl. But the Navy and Colorado State had contrasting styles of play and both teams used their explosive offenses to set the NCAA bowl record for most yards gained by both teams with 1,183.
