The Northern Iowa Panthers are the athletic teams of the University of Northern Iowa. The university is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and competes in Division I FCS in football. Their official uniform colors are purple and gold, their nickname is Panthers, and the mascot is TC Panther. The home football games are played at the 16,324 capacity UNI-Dome, which is a multi-purpose stadium on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and was opened in 1976 as the home of the UNI Panthers basketball and football teams.

The 2007 Northern Iowa Panthers football team represented the University of Northern Iowa in the college football season of 2007 NCAA Division I FCS football season. They finished third in the Gateway Football Conference, the previous year, and are coached by Mark Farley. The Panthers clinched a share of the Gateway Football Conference as well as a playoff berth with a win against Missouri State on November 3, 2007. On October 15, 2007, the Panthers moved into the top spot in The Sports Network's FCS Top 25 poll, which marked the first time the Panthers have been perched in the No. 1 spot in the nation since the Sports Network's poll on November 5, 1992. Northern Iowa was ranked 30th in the nation in the Sagarin ratings on November 8, 2007.
