The NU mascot is called Paws and the school colors are red & black with white trim. Charles A. Pethybridge, Class of the year 1932, originally composed the fight song, “All Hail, Northeastern,” Paws or Paws, the Husky is the live mascot of the Northeastern University. The original mascot of the Northeastern University was a live Siberian Husky named Mr. and Mrs. Husky and it first appeared in the University on March 4. 1927. Northeastern University adopted the nickname Huskies in the year 1927 with the arrival of Husky.

Among the notable players from Northeastern that have gone on to play professionally have been Cincinnati Bengals tight end, Super Bowl contributor and Pro Bowler Dan Ross; Green Bay Packers lineman and Pro Bowler Sean Jones, Pittsburgh Steelers linesman Keith Willis and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Darin Jordan.
The football team has completed three undefeated seasons. NU set a school record with 10 wins, won a share of its first Atlantic 10 title and advanced to the NCAA playoffs for the first time in the year 2002. Northeastern began a new chapter in its history in the year 2005 when the Huskies joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Colonial Athletic Association has produced 16 national team champions in five different sports, 33 individual national champions, 12 national players of the year, 11 national coaches of the year and 12 Honda Award winners.
