The New Mexico State Aggies football team represents the New Mexico State University in the NCAA Division I-A. The Aggies compete in the Western Athletic conference. The New Mexico State University was founded in the year 1888, as the Las Cruces College. The name was changed to the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts in the year 1889 and finally it got its present name in the year 1960. It is located in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

The university's football team was a successful team during the late 1950s and early 1960s. During this era, under the then head coach, Warren Brooks Woodson, the Aggies had some notable seasons. Charley Johnson and Denvis Manns were some of the famous and notable players produced by the New Mexico State University. But towards the end of the 1980s, they were not able to perform that well. They were even ranked the 9th worst college football team of all time by ESPN. Woodson was the most successful football head coach in the university, who had coached the team from the years 1958 till 1967. He was an inductee in the College Football Hall of Fame in the year 1989. Hal Clay Mumme is the current head coach of the team. He had joined the Aggies for the year 2005 season.
The Aggie Memorial Stadium is home to the New Mexico State Aggies football team. The facility was inaugurated on September 16, 1978. It has a seating capacity for 30,343 attendees. The arena has also played host to many popular concerts including Guns N' Roses, Metallica, The Eagles and Paul McCartney.
