Morgan State University is a historically black university in Baltimore, MD. It was formerly known as Centenary Biblical Institute from 1867-1890, Morgan College from 1890-1938 and Morgan State College from 1938 -1975. The school started out as a Methodist Episcopal seminary to instruct young men in the ministry.

The Bears are Morgan State’s athletic teams that compete in the NCAA’s Division I and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. In the 1950s and 60s, the school’s teams were well-known. The NFL drafted over 30 of its football players and a lot of its track athletes competed internationally; they also earned world-class status. Over 200 male and female athletes were inducted into the Morgan State University Hall of Fame; this includes NFL Hall of Famer Leroy Kelly and the legendary lacrosse coach Howard “Chip” Silverman.
The Bears’ football team plays in the Football Championship Subdivision. The team’s home games are played at Hughes Stadium. The Bears will begin the 2008 season on the road on September 6 against Towson. The following week, they will play North Carolina Central at home for Prince Hall Day on September 13. The next week, they’ll travel to Winston-Salem, NC to take on Winston-Salem on September 20. The next week, they travel to New Brunswick, NJ to take on Rutgers on September 27. Head coach Donald Hill-Eley and the team return to Baltimore to face Bethune-Cookman on October 4. Then the Bears head to Greensboro, NC to face North Carolina A&T on October 11. After that, they go to Washington, DC where they’ll face their conference rival Howard on October 18. Their Homecoming game will be against defending MEAC champions Delaware State on October 25. Next, they travel to Tallahassee, FL where they’ll take on Florida A&M on November 1. They will continue on the road to Norfolk, VA to play Norfolk State on November 8. They’ll return home to play South Carolina State on November 15. Finally, they’ll end the season with a game against Hampton on November 22 at home.
