The University of Kentucky (UK) is represented by the Kentucky Wildcats that includes all the athletic teams of the UK. It is also one of the founding members of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Kentucky Wildcats Men's Basketball team has earned its place in the 'Elite' of the NCAA Basketball Teams. It has a record of seven title wins of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship. The Wildcats is considered to be the team with the most winning percentage in the men's basketball circuit. Since the end of the 2008 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament on April 7, 2008, the Kentucky Wildcats have the most number of wins amounting to 1966 wins.

Rupp Arena serves as the home to the Kentucky Wildcats. It has a seating capacity for 23,500 fans and the Wildcats have always been ranked first in the field of game attendance across the United States.
Rick Pitino: The Wildcats coach from 1989–1997; Rick Pitino had left the New York Knicks and accepted the position as the Head Coach for the Kentucky Wildcats. His efforts started showing results and the Wildcats reached the Final Four in the 1993 NCAA Tournament and also went on to win the NCAA National Title in 1996. This win was recorded as Wildcats' first NCAA championship in 18 years. In 1997, the Kentucky Wildcats under the able leadership of Rick Pitino again reached the finals of the NCAA Tournament, but lost to Arizona (Arizona Wildcats) in half time.
