About The Iowa Hawkeyes
The Hawkeyes football team competes in the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and has been competing in the Big Ten Conference since the year 1900. The Iowa Hawkeyes won back-to-back Big Ten Conference Titles in 1921 and 1922.
The Kinnick Stadium serves as the base for the football team of the Iowa Hawkeyes. It is located in Iowa City, Iowa and and was formerly known as the Iowa Stadium. It was inaugurated in 1929 and has a seating capacity for 70,585 people. The stadium is dedicated to the 1939 Heinsman Trophy winner Nile Kinnick. He died while fighting for his country in World War II. The construction for the stadium took only 7 months. The construction began on March 6th 1929 and was completed in July. The stadium was inaugurated with an opening match against Monmouth College on October 5th, 1929.
On March 10th 2004, a major renovation project for the Kinnick Stadium was approved by the Iowa Board of Regents. The renovation project was done at an estimated cost of $86.8 million.
