The Idaho Vandals are the intercollegiate athletic programs in the University of Idaho. They participate in the NCAA Division I-A as a member of the Western Athletic Conference. The University was established on January 30, 1889 and is located in Moscow, Idaho. It sponsors teams in various sports including basketball, cross-country, golf, track, tennis, football, volleyball, soccer and swimming.

The University of Idaho had joined the WAC in the year 2005. Prior to this, it was member of the Big West Conference from the years 1996 to 2000. Then from the years 2001 to 2004, it had been a part of the Sun Belt Conference. The Vandal team was also a long time member of the Big Sky Conference. They were in the conference for 33 years, from the years 1963 till 1996.
The Vandals football team has a long rivalry with the Boise State Broncos. The Vandals have won 12 consecutive games over the Broncos during the years 1982 and 1993. Rodd Akey is the current head coach of the Vandals football team. He has replaced the previous head coach, Dennis Erickson for the 2007 season. The Kibbie Dome is the home arena for the team. Apart from football, the stadium is also home to the University's basketball team, tennis team and indoor track & field. It has a seating capacity of 16,000 spectators for football program whereas 7,000 seats during basketball programs.
