About The Hawaii Warriors
The university was founded in the year 1907 as the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Its name was changed to the School of Hawaii in the year 1912 and renamed the University of Hawaii in the year 1921. The football program of the university played the first game as the Fighting Deans in the year 1909. They played against McKinley High School and ended with a margin of 6-5 score. The team played its first intercollegiate game in the year 1920, against the University of Nevada. In the year 1979, the Warriors became a member of the WAC.
The University of Hawaii has produced many notable players. Ty Detmer, Al Noga, Ashley Lelie, Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan are a few to name. June Jones has been most successful head coach of the team with the highest number of wins during his tenure. He has resigned from the post after the 2007 season and on January 15, 2008; Greg McMackin became the new head coach.
The Hawaii Warriors football team plays its home game at the Aloha Stadium. It was inaugurated on September 12, 1975. It has also been home to the National Football League's Pro Bowl since the year 1980. The stadium has played host to the NCAA's Hula Bowl for several years. It can facilitate up to 50,000 spectators.
