fiesta bowl

Beginning with the very first game in 1971, the Fiesta Bowl has always been one of college football’s favorite postseason contests. The game’s popularity has continually increased since the late 1980's, and up to today as part of the Bowl Championship Series (BCS). Per the BCS agreement, the Fiesta Bowl hosts the Big 12 Conference Champions against another chosen highly-ranked BCS team. Officially named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, per their sponsorship deal with the popular tortilla chip company, the Fiesta has also held two previous BCS Championship games, in 1999 and 2003. >> More alt

About fiesta bowl

The BCS is a series of five college football bowl games, and created with the intention of ending up with the #1 and #2 ranked teams in the country facing off to determine a true National Champion, while providing four other highly competitive bowl games between eight more of the highest ranked college football teams in the country. The five BCS games are the Fiesta Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl, the Sugar Bowl, and the BCS National Championship Game.

Prior to the 2007 contest, the Fiesta Bowl was housed at Arizona State’s Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, before being moved to the new University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where it has remained since that 2007 date.

In that first game at the new stadium, fans witnessed a Fiesta Bowl which many have called one of the greatest college football games ever played. Not only did the undefeated Boise State Broncos upset the Oklahoma Sooners 43–42 in overtime, but this amazing see-saw contest also included numerous trick plays by the Broncos, and a thrilling overtime finish which made the 2007 Fiesta Bowl a game for the ages!

In the game’s second year at the new University of Phoenix Stadium, the 2008 Fiesta Bowl matched the #3 Big 12 Champion Oklahoma Sooners against the #9 Big East Champion West Virginia Mountaineers. This game resulted in the Sooners being upset here for the second straight year, when West Virginia pulled off the 48-28 victory.

Keeping pace with the prior two games, the 2009 Fiesta Bowl provided yet another spectacular game on January 5, when the Texas Longhorns outlasted the Ohio State Buckeyes 24–21, in an exciting victory which was not decided until the final seconds were ticking off the clock.

What college football fan would not want to witness two of the country’s best teams battling inside the modern University of Phoenix Stadium in sunny Glendale, Arizona? If you are one of those fans, and do not want to miss the chance of being there for yet another unexpected outcome, get your Fiesta Bowl tickets now see and another amazing BCS game on January 4, 2010.
