The East Carolina Pirates are the intercollegiate sports teams representing East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, and all varsity-level sports teams sponsored by the university compete in NCAA Division I as a member of Conference USA. In football, they play in the top-tier Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, as do all other C-USA members. Their official uniform colors are purple and gold, and the mascot is Pirate. The team played home games at College Stadium on the main campus from the 1949 to the 1962 season, with the exception of the 1999 Miami football game, they have played their home games at the 43,000 capacity Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium every year since 1963. The stadium is located south of East Carolina’s main campus near the intersection of South Charles Boulevard and 14th Street. Their minor rivals are NC State, UNC Chapel Hill and Southern Miss.

About The East Carolina Pirates
Terry Holland is their athletic director, and Skip Holtz is the head coach. The East Carolina Pirates football program is currently a member of the Conference USA, which is a Division I Bowl Subdivision, formerly Division I-A, of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, and have won five conference championships and eight bowl games. The team won seven regular season games in 2007, plus their bowl game, and went to their second bowl game in two years. They played the Boise State in the Hawai'i Bowl, and beat the Broncos 41–38. This was the first bowl game win since the Galleryfurniture.com Bowl win against Texas Tech in 2000.
