The University of Colorado at Boulder sponsors 16 varsity sports teams, which are called the Buffaloes, or Golden Buffaloes. They participate in the NCAA Division I-A, and the University's current athletic director is Mike Bohn, since April 13, 2005. Colorado has won 22 National Championships in its history, and it was ranked number 14 of "America's Best Sports College" in a 2002 analysis performed by Sports Illustrated In June 2007.

About The Colorado Buffaloes
Their official uniform colors are silver and gold, and the mascot is Ralphie. The football program, with 86 of the 133 student-athletes involved, lost one scholarship for the next three seasons. Dan Hawkins has been the head coach since the 2006 season, and the team is playing their home games at Folsom Field since 1923. Their all-time record is 658-419-36 (.608 winning percentage) through the finish of the 2007 season, and they are 16th on the all-time win list and 22nd in all-time winning percentage. The team has won numerous bowl games, 8 Colorado Football Association Championships in 1894, 1897, 1901 and 1908, Colorado Faculty Athletic Conference in 1909, 7 RFMAC Championships in 1911, 1913, 1923, 1924, 1934, 1935 and 1937, 4 Mountain States Conference Championships in 1939, 1942, 1943 and 1944, 5 Big Eight conference championships in 1961, 1976, 1989, 1990 and 1991, one Big 12 conference championship in 2001, 4 Big 12 North Championships in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005, and an Associated Press National Championship in 1990. In 1994, Rashaan Salaam won Colorado's only Heisman Trophy.
