About Chick-fil-a Bowl
Since, December 1968, this bowl game is played in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially, the games were played at the beautiful Grant Field located in the Georgia Tech campus. During 1971 to 1991, the bowl game was played at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. But after that, it’s the Georgia Dome that has hosted the Chick-fil-a Bowl games. From the first ten meetings, around seven games witnesses games between an Atlantic Coast Conference team and an at-large opponent team. However, from 1993 onwards the games take place between a Southeastern Conference team and one from the ACC. This bowl made history when in 2005 it hosted the first-ever match-up of the 10 best teams.
Actually, the Lions Clubs of Georgia initially formed this bowl game as a fund-raiser. But as the popularity of the game began to take a new shape, the game came under the supervision of the Chamber of Commerce. From the 1998 game onwards, Southern chicken distributor Chick-fil-a sponsored the title. In December 2006, Chick-fil-a got the naming rights to the game for years. This sponsorship deal of $22 million was the last blow to the forty years of the Peach Bowl name. Some amount of the funds from this prestigious deal will be used to maintain the popularity of the bowl.
Currently, the Chick-fil-a Bowl enjoys the first choice from the ACC after the BCS makes its selection. The 2006 game was a big hit, thus adding one more year to its tenth consecutive year success. This makes the Chick-fil-a Bowl, the best-attended bowl from the non-BCS bowl category, as far as the last decade is concerned.
The new logo of the Chick-fil-a Bowl game was developed in 2006. Entering the 2007 season, it has enjoyed 10 straight sellouts and 13 in the last 15 years, making it the highest attended bowl game outside the Bowl Championship Series. The 2007 game is scheduled to take place on December 31, 2007 at 7:30pm. The game will be telecast live on ESPN. The two teams for this year's game are Clemson and Auburn.
