The athletic teams of the University of California, Berkley are represented by the California Golden Bears. The Golden Bears compete in the NCAA Division I of the Pacific Ten Conference (PAC 10) and for some sports they participate in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. In its all time record, the Golden Bears has won national titles in 16 different sports and 66 team titles overall. The California Golden Bears football team represents the University of California, Berkley in the NCAA Division I football tournament. Jeff Tedford, born on November 2nd, 1961 in Lynwood, California is the current head coach of the California Golden Bears. He was hired as the head coach in the year 2002 replacing the retired head coach Tom Holmoe and has been accredited with leading the Golden Bears to national success. Due to his dedicated efforts, the sale of season tickets, that had gone to an all time low suddenly rose from a sales figure of 16,200 in 2002 to 41,336 tickets in 2007.
The California Memorial Stadium is the home to the California Golden Bears football team and is located on the campus of the University of California, Berkley. Also known as the Memorial Stadium, it was opened in the year 1923 and has a seating capacity of 75,662 fans.
