About The Purdue Boilermakers
Purdue basketball holds the record for Big Ten Championships (21), along with being the only program in the conference to boast winning records versus every other school in the Big Ten. In 1932 they won their only National Championship, awarded by the Helms Athletic Foundation prior to the establishment of the NCAA Tournament. They share a classic rivalry with the Indiana Hoosiers, of which Purdue owns a 107-84 series lead, and most recently they were defeated by the Hoosiers 77-68 in Bloomington on February 19, 2008.
In 2004, Matt Painter was hired as a planned replacement for coach Keady, and after a disappointing first season marred with injuries, he re-energized Purdue basketball in the summer of 2006 by signing the top high school class in the Big Ten and one of the top five nationally, and the program's good fortunes continued well into the 2006-07 season with the Boilermakers finishing 4th with a 9-7 Big 10 conference record, 22-12 overall, with Purdue's first invite to the NCAA tournament since 2003. They finished the 2007-08 regular season with a 15-3 Big Ten record and 25-9 overall, including a second straight NCAA appearance.
