The Portland State Vikings are the intercollegiate athletic teams in the Portland State University. The University is located in Portland, Oregon. This University was established in the year 1946 as the Vanport Extension Center. The University is a member of the Big Sky Conference, the Pac-10 Conference in wrestling and the Pacific Coast Softball Conference. The Vikings participate in the NCAA Division I level in basketball, women's volleyball, golf and soccer, wrestling, tennis, softball, indoors and outdoors track & field and cross-country.

The Portland State Vikings football team participates in the NCAA Division I – Football Championship Subdivision. The Vikings kicked off in intercollegiate football in the year 1947. The team has not won a single conference title in its history, but in the 1980s it showed some notable performances, ending up at the second position in the NCAA Division II in the year 1989 and 1990 seasons. In the year 2006 season, the Vikings had a fair victory over the University of New Mexico and had finished in the second place in the conference. Some of the former players of the team include June Jones, Neil Lomax, Brennan Carvalho, Adam Hayward, Condrew Allen and Clint Didier. Jerry Glanville is the current head coach of the Portland State Vikings football team. He joined the team for the year 2007 season by replacing Tim Walsh.
The PGE Park is the venue for the Portland State Vikings football team. It is an outdoor multi-purpose facility that was inaugurated in the year 1926. The stadium is also the site for the Portland Beavers, a minor-league baseball team of the Pacific Coast League; the Portland Timbers, a USL First Division soccer team, concerts and many more events. It seats up to 23,136 spectators for concerts and 19,566 spectators for baseball and soccer.
