The Northern Illinois Huskies is the name given to the sports teams of Northern Illinois University, which is located in Dekalb, Illinois. It is a member of the NCAA Division I-A and the Mid-American Conference. The athletic program consists of seven men's sports (baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, tennis and wrestling) and ten women's sports (basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, tennis, track and volleyball).

About The Northern Illinois Huskies
The Northern Illinois Huskies began participating in athletic competitions in the year 1899 and were nicknamed the Profs. They then went through a series of nicknames. In the 1920s they were referred to as the Cardinals. During the 1930s they were called Evansmen after George “Chick” Evans. The Huskies mascot was officially chosen in the year 1940.
Before the mid 1990s, the NIU's sports teams had not received any recognition outside of Illinois. It is only in the late 1990s and early 2000s that they have achieved some successes that have helped them earn popularity outside of Illinois. NIU experienced success as a NCAA Division I school, especially in football, attending bowl games in the year 2004. It also attained a victory over Troy State in the Silicon Valley Classic. But it lost to the Texas Christian team in the year 2006 Poinsettia Bowl.
Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium is the home field of the Northern Illinois Huskies. Huskie Stadium opened in the year 1965 and has a seating capacity for 31,000 people. Brigham Field is named after Robert J. Brigham, a former player, coach and athletic director at the school.
