About The Iowa Hawkeyes
The Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team is a successful sports team of the University of Iowa. The team was introduced in the year 1902. They have had eight Big Ten regular-season conference championships in their plate and have won two Big Ten tournaments in 2001 and 2006. The team was at their peak of success from the 1970s through out the 1990s. During that period, head coaches, Lute Olson and Tom Davis, headed them. Todd Lickliter is the current head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was hired at the University of Iowa on April 3, 2007 replacing the previous head coach, Steve Alford.
The Carver-Hawkeye Arena plays host to the Iowa Hawkeyes basketball program. The facility is a 15,500-seat multi-purpose indoor arena that also plays host to the University of Iowa wrestling, gymnastics and volleyball teams. It has played host to many events including the Big Ten and the National Collegiate Athletic Association wrestling championships, the 1984 U.S. Olympic wrestling trials and the 1984 U.S. Olympic men's and women's basketball exhibitions. The National Duals wrestling tournament was also held at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 1998 and 1999.
