The Buffalo Bulls football team is not a very old member of the Division I Football Bowl Subdivision as they joined in the year 1999. But even without a great historical background and even without achieving much success in the recent performances in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the Bulls football program still has a rich tradition.
The University at Buffalo Stadium opened on September 4, 1993 with a game against the University of Maine. The original seating capacity of the stadium was for 16,500 spectators but now it has been improved and provided with 31,000 seats for the spectators. The stadium consists of a north-south field surrounded by an eight-lane track. There are four large light towers at the corners that provide lighting to the stadium. The Bulls played their first six years in the stadium as a member of Division I-AA, finally making their return to Division I-A in the year 1999.
