Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards started selling basketball tickets long ago in 1961 as the Chicago Packers. The team, the city, and the logo would change many times over the years, but the history of the club is still one to be celebrated. >> More alt

About The Washington Wizards

The franchise spent two years in Chicago, one with Packers printed on the basketball tickets and the other with zephyrs. In just the third year of the franchise the team moved to another city. In Baltimore the team, now named the Bullets, immediately found a welcoming home. In the second year in the city the team went to the playoffs for the first time and lost in the division finals.

The franchise had been to the playoffs with hustle early on, but not with players whose names drew attention themselves. That all changed in the late ‘60s when the Bullets drafted Earl Monroe and Wes Unseld. The future Hall of Famers drew fans in who wanted tickets to see two great basketball players run the court. The two were key to the NBA Finals appearance in the 1970-71 season. The Bullets were swept by the Bucks, but they had begun a tradition of contention that lasted into the ‘80s.

The Bullets left Baltimore for Washington D.C. in 1973. There the nucleus of the franchise included Unsled, Elvin Hayes, and Kevin Porter. The team began their time in the nation’s capital with tickets to the NBA Finals in just their first season. The club was swept by the Golden State Warriors, but would return just three years later and would come away with its first and only championship in 1978.

That season the Bullets were not expected to go far. With a record of 44-38 the team was far from a favorite to advance very far in the playoffs. Still, Unseld and Hayes took the fans on a ride with tickets to Atlanta, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Seattle on the way to a championship.

Washington had a similar run the next season after finishing the year 3-8. The team returned to the NBA Finals for a rematch with the Seattle Supersonics, but came home with tickets from a quick defeat in five games.

The Bullets began a period of struggle in the ‘80s. While the rest of the league seemed to celebrating the best decade of basketball, the Bullets relied on the last year of Moses Malone’s career, the incredible height of Manute Bol, and the unappreciated scoring of Jeff Malone to give their fans a chance to buy playoff tickets before exiting in the first round.

The worst years for the franchise were coming up from 1988 to 1997. The years were defined by a lack of tickets to the post season. The teams were not supposed to be so bad, but talents like Juwan Howard, Tom Gugliotta, and Chris Webber, and Rod Strickland the could never quite get it together and fans suffered through seasons marred by great expectations and few positive results.

Amidst the seasons in the lottery the Bullets changed their names it to the Wizards. The new Wizards tickets in 1995 held much of the same for the team. A brief appearance in the playoffs against the Bulls failed to rejuvenate the franchise. Even the comeback of Michael Jordan could do little to take the franchise out of the lottery.

Wizards tickets finally became playoff tickets on a consistent basis in 2004. The savior ended up being a player picked in the second round by another team. Point guard Gilbert Arenas would become the team leader and his collaboration with Antawn Jamison has the Wizards as playoff contenders every season. That first year season the two helped the Wizards reach the second round. Every year since the Wizards have failed to get past Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

2008 Season Preview

Once again Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison are expected to lead the Washington Wizards into the playoffs. This season the sudden emergence of Caron Butler at small forward gives fans with Wizards tickets a new reason to believe they will make it out of the first round.

The bench is underwhelming at best with Antonio Daniels the best player coming off it. Nick Young could steal the starting spot from DeShawn Stevenson at the two guard. The Verizon Center will have an interesting season ahead with tickets to division match ups against the Hawks, Magic, and Heat being potential playoff matches.

Those seats are all available with the Ticket Specialists. The ticket brokers offer the cheapest deals on great Wizards tickets all season long as the Phone Booth. Simply check out the seating chart and compare the prices of the incredible inventory to see which game and which seat you will get to see Arenas and the Wizards play live.
