The Wizards have brought the postseason to the Verizon Center. The strength of the team is the combo of Gilbert Arenas and Antawn Jamison. Arenas is the all star point guard who has defied all odds as a second round pick to earn a starting job and then rise to the NBA elite. His indefensible drives and his killer three pointers terrorize opponents. Antawn Jamison came to the team and has continued his steady career with an average around 20 points a game and near double digit rebounds. The player spreads the floor forcing the opposing power forward to come and guard him or finding a spot in the zone. The two corner stones have been most successful when they have had a string third option. That option has become Caron Butler. Butler has taken his unappreciated production through Miami and Los Angeles before finding a home in Washington. Wizards playoff tickets would not be a possibility year in and year out without these three.

Last season injuries force other players to step up. DeSahwn Stevenson, Antonio Daniels, Nick Young, Dominic McGuire, Darius Songaila, and Andray Blatche took turns shining as the Wizards barely made it into the postseason. Playoff tickets once again took the team to Cleveland, who once again beat them in the first round. The weakness after the top few teams in the Eastern Conference will give the Wizards an easy shot at the postseason with a regular season chalk full of games against struggling opponents, but the real challenge comes once the Celtics, Pistons, and Cavaliers come up in a seven game series. Washington basketball fans hope that they see a team that can finally compete in the deeper rounds this year.
