After being staged for several years at the Brooklands course, the British Grand Pix had made the Silverstone Circuit as its home. It was built on the site of a World War II bomber base, the RAF Silverstone and it was inaugurated in the year 1943. The arena first hosted the race in 1948. The race was alternatively staged between Silverstone, the Aintree and the Brands Hatch from 1955 to 1986. Since 1987, Silverstone has been playing host to the British Grand Pix every year. It is one of the fastest tracks in the Formula One calendar. It is also home to the BRDC International Trophy and European Drift Championship. In the past years, it has hosted the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, exhibition rounds of the D1 Grand Prix and many more races.
