The Philadelphia Phillies enter the 2012 MLB season a team with a sudden sense of urgency. Injuries have been an issue since they won the World Series four years ago, but somehow this latest batch seems less freakish and more creak-ish in nature. Specificallly Ryan Howard will miss the beginning of the baseball season and will return a month or two into the schedule. Citizens Ball Park will certainly see fewer balls making their way into the bleachers, but Ty Wigginton should hit well enough to give the Phillies a fighting chance. Philadelphia Phillies tickets are still a good purchase though.

The roster is still supremely talented. Shane Victorino, Placido Polanco, and Hunter Pence will carry the offense with any additional help from Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley simply begin icing on the proverbial cake. The pitching is still overwhelming, though not as deep. Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, and Cole Hamels are still the best front of the rotation pitchers in baseball. If Vance Worley pitches anything like he did last season, the second year starter will make this the best rotation in the league.
The bullpen has some solid options to setup a new closer. Antonio Bastardo, Jose Contreras, and Chad Qualls are the main middle men. Jonathan Papelbon is the new closer. Papelbon is not a closer coming off a bad season that could be the beginning of the end. Rather, he saved 31 of 34 games last season, sported a 2.94 ERA and 0.93 WHIP, and struck out 87 batters in 64 innings. He is as solid as he has ever been.
Overall, the Phillies have speed and power on offense and great starting pitching and what should be an exceptional bullpen. They may have some defensive deficiencies, but no team is perfect. Philly should be able to take the NL East with ease, though “should” is one of those words that seem to bring about slumps and one those magical Marlins seasons. The TicketSpecialists has the Philadelphia Phillies tickets to enjoy and make sure this team plays to its talent level, avenging last season’s early exit.
