As the summer months roll into the fall and the air around the country cools baseball fans begin to look forward to the playoffs, whether their team will have tickets for postseason play or not. For the franchises first few years they have struggled to finish the year in the American League East in a position higher than fifth. Managers Larry Rothschild, Hal McRae, and Lou Piniella have come and gone as the team has struggled to shake off the expansion team label and become a truly respected name on the field at Tropicana Field. The fans have hungered for playoff tickets, watching as the other expansion teams have found at least one season of success.
This season appears to be that season for the Tampa Bay Rays. Fans are gearing up to be first in line to buy the first batch of playoff tickets. Scott Kazmir and the rest of the pitching staff will have to continue its unbelievable performance. The bullpen has been the strength of the team, rarely surrendering a game. The offense has not been the most productive but with base-stealing threats like Carl Crawford, Jason Bartlett, and B.J. Upton the team is able to play a little small ball and a little long ball with power hitters like Evan Longoria and Carlos Pena.
