The Baltimore Orioles long history has been one spent mostly at the bottom of the division standings, but on occasion the franchise has been able to put together a string of successful seasons. Those strings have combined for 11 post season appearances and three World Series titles.

The best days to be an Orioles fan were between the years of 1966 and 1983. Stars like Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, Cal Ripken Jr., Mike Cuellar, Jim Palmer, Mike Flanagan, and Steve Stone led the team to eight American League East division titles through the three decades. The team made it to the playoffs to sell tickets with Weaver Ball, or pitching, defense, and the three-run home run.
The first World Series came in the first season Frank Robinson played in Baltimore. The star had been in Cincinnati, but a trade sent Milt Pappas and several lesser players to the Reds for the outfielder. Robinson delivered the American League East division title in a season in which he won the AL MVP, the Triple Crown, and a World Series. Playoff tickets had been an extreme rarity before his presence and for the next 17 years the Oriole enjoyed a place in the postseason in October.
Those days may be far behind, and the new face of the franchise is Aubrey Huff. He and Melvin Mora, Luke Scott, and Nick Markakis are the key to playoff tickets this season. Their hitting produces one of the most lethal lineups in the American League. The pitching needs another couple of starters to emerge to help Jeremy Guthrie out. Guthrie delivers quality start after quality start and is the ace of the rotation. For the Orioles to go far Daniel Cabrera, Garrett Olson, or Dennis Sarfate will need to step up so the team can last the entire series.
