John Edward Szeles was born on September 9, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. Ever since his childhood days John was interested in the world of magic. He made his first attempt at taking up this passion as a profession, when he started off as a street performer in San Francisco. Soon he gained a lot of popularity and started performing in nightclubs and colleges. 'The Amazing Johnathan' got his first big breakthrough when he appeared in 'The 8th Annual Young Comedians Show' in the year 1983.
Johnathan's performance here was much admired and appreciated and soon he got an opportunity to host the year 1991 syndicated game show named 'Ruckus'. Following his act as a host in this game show, 'Johnathan' has successfully appeared on a number of variety shows in the last twenty years, such as 'Lounge Lizard', 'Premium Blend', 'The X Show', 'Comic Strip Live', 'The Arsenio Hall Show', 'Young Comedians Special', 'Late Night with David Letterman', 'Entertainment Tonight' and 'The Wayne Brady Show'. 'The Amazing Johnathan' has also made three appearances on Criss Angel's show 'Mindfreak'.
Although he has made a number of appearances on many television shows, 'The Amazing Johnathan' is still primarily a live performer. His acts are immensely humorous in nature and are mainly based on interactions with audience members. 'The Amazing Johnathan' always sports the traditional gear of a black headband in his performances. Johnathan's performance as a comic magician has received much praise from all over. He has won the 'International Magic Award' for 'Best Comedy Magician' two times, which clearly proves his expertise.
'The Amazing Johnathan' also features in the coveted ' Best of Las Vegas' list in the 'Best Show' category. The ‘Las Vegas Review-Journal’ had also given him the award of ‘Best Comedian of the Year’. His assistant of more than five years, Penny Wiggins, often accompanies ‘The Amazing Johnathan’. Wiggins is better known as 'Psychic Tanya', which is her stage name. Together, the duo stages such a hilarious and hysteric act, that the audience is left rolling in laughter. Over the years, 'The Amazing Johnathan' has exhibited his skills in four continents.
He has performed in front of scores of people and also dignitaries and high-profile officials, such as President Ronald Reagan and the president of France. Johnathan has also come out with a book on practical jokes titled ‘Every Trick in the Book’. The book is a classic compilation of magic tricks and practical jokes.
