On February 20, 2008, Bette Midler’s show, The Showgirl Must Go On, debuted at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, NV. The show is performed live 5 nights a week and will have about 100 shows over a two-year period. 20 female dancers, the staggering Harlettes and a 13-piece band (including a 6-piece horn section from “The Fat City Horns,” a Las Vegas band) make up the show. Midler and the rest of the cast played to a sold-out theater of VIPs and celebrities the very first night. The Showgirl Must Go On includes a repertoire of some of Midler’s favorite characters, like Delores Delago, the mermaid bound to a wheelchair and Soph, the oldest living showgirl in Las Vegas. Amid the backdrop of a Broadway-like theatre, the ensemble gives an energetic and comical show. Every number in the show is full of Midler’s wit and brash sense of style.
