Underoath began playing together while they were in high school. The guitarist wanted to start a band since he was in high school. Underoath began performing at the local club Coward. The band used to practice at the lead singer's house.

Often times critics will praise Underoath for their ability to rile up the audience at live performances. Nigel Noonan, a music critic from Champaign, has always mentioned band’s great stage presence. Underoath’s newest record is the group’s best received release yet.
Underoath were unsure about their music careers with the release of their first recording, and were relieved after their music began climbing the charts ad getting lots of play on the radio. The band plays plenty of arenas, but would rather perform in the smaller bars in which they began. Underoath met with a local DJ from B102.1 and convinced him to play their single on air. The single immediately became a local hit and larger radio stations started playing the song. Eventually a record executive heard it and signed the group. The band's members all had odd jobs while they worked hard to be known.
Underoath realized that they were truly working musicians when Lizzie McCarther started the first fan club for the group in 1997. The group embraced the small fan club and with the launching of the band’s own website by Mandy Judge and a well marketed national tour the club quickly grew to a few thousand.
Underoath appreciaites their fans and wants to give them a good show, so they play previous hits along with the latest singles. The group has an obsession with City in Cincinnati and are sure to play a concert every year.
