U2

U2 has been around since the 1980s and have released 12 studio albums that have all seemed to strike a chord with fans. The worldwide sales figures total more than 145 million records sold. The critics seemed to agree with the fans. U2 has won 22 Grammy Awards, more than any other band in modern rock history. In 2005, the band was honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland in their very first year of eligibility. Rolling Stone magazine, the venerable music publication, has listed U2 at number 22 in its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. Throughout their career, as a band and as individuals, they have campaigned for human rights and philanthropic causes, including Amnesty International, the ONE Campaign, Product Red, and Bono's DATA campaign. >> More alt

About U2

The album's first two singles, "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", quickly went to number one in the U.S. U2 became the fourth rock band to be featured on the cover of Time magazine, which declared U2 "Rock's Hottest Ticket". In February 2002, U2 connected with America by performing at Super Bowl XXXVI at halftime. Sports Illustrated’s web site has ranked the performance as the best halftime show in Super Bowl history. One of their recent hit single albums, All That You Can't Leave Behind debuted at number one in 22 countries and its worldwide hit single, "Beautiful Day" earned three Grammy Awards, as did the album's three other singles.

U2 has kept their music to their original design, maintaining a distinct sound based on melodic instrumentals, and expressive, larger-than-life vocals. The approach was enhanced by the influence of Steve Lillywhite, the bands record producer, who helped the band increase their musical ability. The Edge utilizes an Irish influenced style of rhythmic echo and signature delay to create his sound, revealing a well-defined ambient, chiming sound. Bono has nurtured his falsetto operatic voice through intense training. The band tends to write for social, political, and personal subject matter while maintaining a grandiose scale in songwriting, keeping their live band style.

In secondary school, the group members met up in 1976 and decided to start up a teenage band. Even though they had little natural talent, in the mid-1980’s they had become an international act. The band seemed to create a strong environment, being sensational via live performances instead of selling records. But in 1987, their album The Joshua Tree, elevated the band “from heroes to superstars” according to Rolling Stone magazine.

The bands current schedule includes a concert tour in Europe, but will return to the United States and Canada this summer. U2’s music has pulled in many fans over the past years, allowing U2 tickets to sell well before their concerts. Get your U2 tickets today!
