TV on the Radio started performing at Miscellany, a local dive bar. The band used to sell their CDs out of their van at the local record store. TV on the Radio’s members met in grade school. The guitarist wanted to start a band since he was in college.

TV on the Radio knew they had finally made it in 1999, after the group's first fan club was started by Sarah Lamango. While the club started out small after the organizer heard the band play at a small club in Champaign, the club grew leaps and bounds after the band’s first national tour.
TV on the Radio's members hope this tour and the newest album attracts another audience. The band just finished their new album, but they are thinking of what is next to come. TV on the Radio's most current project is the group's first since the group members went to work on independent projects eight years ago.
Often times, critics have commended TV on the Radio for their ability to connect with the audience when they perform live.
