About The The Spinners

Then, the band issued their first single, "That's What Girls Are Made For" and the song became an instant hit and also acclaimed as a top ten R&B hit when it was released in 1961. Such sort of success brought some very good news for the band but it was followed by the sudden departure of Dixon. Dixon was replaced by Edgar "Chico" Edwards. Well, the following years were not proved fruitful for the group and then they issued some failed singles, to add to their worries, the Tri-Phi records was taken over by hugely popular Motown in mid 60's. Then followed the departure of the Edwards and he was replaced by G.C.Cameron.

The band is considered at the greatest soul outfit of the early '70s. Actually, their popular songs laid the foundation for the future sound of the hugely popular Philly soul. Actually, the band belongs to Detroit and that's where all the band members came together in the late '50s and began their music journey. In the mid 60's the band became an essential part of the larger Motown Records. Actually, their problems didn't seem to end as they were not being picked up by any label. The Spinners add a new face in their line up with the singer Phillipe Wynne. Soon they were signed with Atlantic Records. With this new association the band started working with producer Thom Bell.

The band recorded a number of classic numbers in between 1972 and 1977. Some of them were "Mighty Love," "I'll Be Around," "Then Came You," "Could It Be I'm Fallin in Love," and "Games People Play." After these smash hits the band went through a slump period. But they will always be remembered for their tremendous contribution to soul music. If you want to know them better then catch them performing live, but don't forget to get your tickets from an on-line ticket vendor to avoid the huge rush for tickets.
