Having completed eight years, the annual mega-music concert has acquired the status of a Detroit institution. This is the time when some of rock's biggest acts are brought to town. This year, the lineup featured dance-funk reggae rockers 311 with the harder-edged Fall Out Boy,
Coheed And Cambria, Our Lady Peace and Alien Ant Farm among others.
89X programming director Murray Brookshaw says "It's the kind of experience that fills up the senses, it is is a way to thank listeners for their support. We want to give them sensory overload." According to Brookshaw the concert's lineup is designed to showcase the station's eclectic
playlist. The show's past performers is also very impressive. The list includes Beck, Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Blink-182. He also comments that "The show is kind of a representation of 89X," he says. "This year, it goes from Fall Out Boy, which is an up-and-coming band, to Our Lady Peace, who are a really established band. And 311 caps it off in a great way. They have so much fun when they play. It's a great way to end the show."
Nick Hexum is the lead singer of 311. He was all excitement for the show and was clearly looking forward to it. He commented that "Alien Ant Farm are, like, our closest band friends. We gig with them a lot. Coheed and Cambria is, like, P-Nut's (311 bassist Aaron 'P-Nut' Wills) favorite band right now. They're cool."
