The English indie rock band Bluetones was formed in Hounslow, Greater London in 1994 as The Bottlegarden. The Bluetones released its hit album, Slight Return in 1995 with The Fountainhead. This group achieved thirteen Top 40 singles and three Top 10 albums in the UK chart besides retaining its loyal fan base over the period. The band has seen many ups and downs in its career graph even after giving several hits.

The fall of the Britpop movement brought bad omen for this band that lost its commercial success with this decadence. But none of the band members lose heart due to this failure. They kept recording their music without any interruption. That is why some critics nicknamed this band as Britpop survivors. Its professional guts and transparent attitude remained the key to its optimism. This band achieved grand success through its live performances over the years. These performances led it to attain fame and keep going with its experiments in music.
The Bluetones releasedthe album, Expecting to Fly on the Superior Quality Recordings after releasing its two singles on the Fierce Panda Records. This album featured the singles, Bluetonic and Slight Return. It released its second album, Return To The Last Chance Saloon in 1998 with Mexican flavour. The third album of the band, Science & Nature reached Top 10. This band began a month-long tour to Europe in the support of its new release, including two sold-out nights at Glasgow's King Tuts on November 1, 2006. It released BBC Radio Sessions containing tracks recorded for the BBC between 1994 and 2000 in February 2007.
The group began a mini-tour of Scotland in January 2008 and played in the five cities: FuBar in Stirling on January 18; Kinema in Dunfermline on January 19; Moshulu in Aberdeen on January 20, Classic Grand in Glasgow on January 21 and finally the Liquid Room in Edinburgh on January 22. The band has rejuvenated in the current year and came into forefront once again in May 2008 on a ten-date tour that covered Cambridge, Whitehaven, Sheffield, Newcastle upon Tyne, Birmingham, London, Bristol, Manchester and Darwen for multi-level performances.
The current lineup of The Bluetones comprises of vocalist Mark Morriss, guitarist Adam Devlin, bass guitarist Scott Morriss and drummer Eds Chesters. A new addition has come recently with the inclusion of its fifth member Richard Payne in its current lineup.
