A four-piece alternative metal group the Taproot band was formed in the year 1997 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, US. The band members include: Stephen Richards on Vocals and Guitar, Mike DeWolf on Guitar, Phil Lipscomb on Bass and Jarrod Montague on Drums. The band has toured with other bands like Korn, Deftones, Staind, P.O.D, Disturbed, Chevelle and Linkin Park.

About Taproot
The band got an offer from Interscope Records but the two did not work together. Thereafter, the band finally signed to Atlantic Records. On this, Fred Durst, who was from the Interscope Records, felt cheated and he cursed the band. He also cursed System of a Down, who played a major role in the band's deal with Atlantic Records. In the meanwhile, the band already released three discs “...Something More Than Nothing”, “Mentobe” and “Upon Us”, that too independently.
The debut album of the band “Gift” was released on June 27, 2000. Ulrich Wild and David Bervensite produced the album under the label Atlantic/Velvet Hammer. The album was a big hit and 250,000 CDs were sold in the US. The tracks of the songbook include: Smile, Again and Again, Emotional Times, Now, I Nite Stand, Believed, Mentobe, I, Mirror's Reflection, Dragged Down, Comeback and Impact. However, the two tracks “I” and “Again And Again” also became famous as Mainstream Rock Radio Hits.
The second album of the band “Welcome” was recorded between November 2001-May 2002 in Los Angeles, California. The same was released on October 15, 2002 under the label Atlantic/Velvet Hammer. The tracks of the albums include: Mine, Poem, Everything, Art, Myself, When, Fault, Sumtimes, Breathe, Like, Dreams and Time.
The third album by Taproot, “Blue Sky Research” was recorded from October 24 to January 2005 in Los Angeles, California. The same was released on August 16, 2005 under the label Atlantic/Velvet Hammer. The tracks of the songbook include: I Will Not Fall For You, Violent Seas, Birthday, Facepeeler, Calling, Forever Endeavor, April Suits, Lost In The Woods, So Eager, She, Promise, Nightmare and Blue-Sky Research/What's Left.
The forthcoming album of Taproot “Our Long Road Home” is expected for release on September 16, 2008 under the label Velvet Hammer. This album is the first independent release of the band. The tracks consists of 12 songs, which also include: Be The One, Footprints, Hand That Holds True, It's Natural, Run To, Take It, Wherever I Stand and You're Not Home Tonight.
