Formed in the year 1999, the band “Taking Back Sunday” originally comprised of Antonio Longo as lead vocalist, John Nolan on guitar, Jesse Lacey as bassist and backing vocalist, drummer Stevie D. and Eddie Reyes as guitarist. Their first work together was the “Taking Back Sunday EP.” But during the middle of recording the EP, the band went through many ups and down creating changes in the lineup. Adam Lazzara replaced Lacey, later Stevie D. also left and was replaced by Mark O'Connell as the drummer. Finally, in February of the year 2001, the EP was released which didn't do very well.

Many changes have taken place in the lineup of the band members. During the recording of their debut album, the band members again underwent a change. Longo departed and later Adam Lazzara became the lead vocalist. Shaun Cooper became the new bassist. The new lineup released their first album, “Tell All Your Friends” in the year 2002.
In the year 2003, the band almost broke up. Shaun Cooper and John Nolan left the band and later formed the band “Straylight Run.” The execution of band members and constant change in the lineup only added to more havoc and tensions. Because of this the shooting of their next video, “You're So Last Summer” was obviously delayed. Later, the video was completed when guitarist and vocalist Fred Mascherino, former member of “Breaking Pangaea,” and bassist Matt Rubano joined “Taking Back Sunday.”
The band could see some rays of success in their career. In the year 2004, the band opened for the popular band “Blink - 182” and co – headlined the Vans Warped Tour. The same year “Where You Want to Be,” their next album was released on Victory Records. The album did well commercially and was a success. The album jumped to the #3 slot on the Billboard 200 chart and sold over 163,000 copies.
“Taking Back Sunday,” appeared on the late night talk shows “Loveline” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” They provided the soundtrack for the movie “Spider - Man 2” with the song “This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know).” Slowly and steadily the band was making its mark and were getting popular day by day. They have provided various other soundtracks for several hit movies. The group contributed “Error: Operator” to both the Fantastic 4 soundtrack and its video game and the song “Your Own Disaster” was provided to the Elektra soundtrack. Later in the year 2007, the group provided the soundtrack for the movie “Transformers,” with the track “What's It Feel Like to Be a Ghost?” The band also made an appearance in Tony Hawks “American Wasteland.”
“Louder Now,” was released on Warner Bros. Records, in the year 2006. It reflected the dramatic changes made in the band in only two years. The group achieved great mainstream exposure as they appeared on the late night talk shows - The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
The present band members of the group includes Adam Lazzara as the vocalist, Matt Rubano as the bassist as well as vocalist, drummer Mark O'Connell, Matt Fazzi on guitar and vocals and finally Eddie Reyes as the guitarist.
