About Steve Riley

Steve Riley on accordion, guitarist Sam Broussard David Greely on fiddle, drummer Kevin Dugas and Brazos Huval who plays the fiddle, saxophone and bass are the members of the band. Jimmy Domengeaux was the guitarist of the band until his death in the year 1999. He met with an accident in southwestern Louisiana and died.

The band normally plays Cajun music and at times blends other forms of music too. The mood of the album “Bayou Ruler,” reveals a level of comfort. Tarka Cordell and C. C. Adcock were the producers. The band has made a mark in the world of music and has a strong fan base all around the world. The 1990s styled Cajun melodies and rhythms are very popular among the crowds of Canada, the U.S. and Europe. The group's early works reflect their respect for tradition. They work on covers of well-known Cajun tunes.

The Mamou Playboys have spent their recording career at Rounder Records. The band released their debut self - titled album in the year 1990. Zachary Richard, the Cajun blues rocker was the producer. The year 1992 saw the release of “Tit Galop Pour Mamou,” which was folkier, acoustic material. Then in the year 1993, their album “Trace of Time” was released and it showcased standard Cajun tunes. Al Tharp produced the album. Their 1994 release “Live,” included a pair of Clifton Chenier zydeco tunes. The band tackles traditional Cajun tunes by the likes of D.L. Menard, Dewey Balfa, Aldus Rogers and Iry Lejeune. The band's album “La Toussaint,” released in 1995 reflected the group's growth as they toured and performed overseas. “Bayou Ruler” was their next release in the year 1998. Later in the year 2001 “Happytown” came out. “Bon Reve” followed in the year 2003. “Dominos” came out in the year 2005.

The band has two wonderful medleys, the “Ardoin Medley” and “Napoleon B. Fruge,” on their album “Dominos.” The product is excellent and the band gives interesting effects like they gave in the song “Creole Stomp” of the album the “Happy Town.”

The inclusion of guitarist Sam Broussard five years ago added soul to their music. He was an added advantage for the band. Steve however has his own high standards and is inimitable. He has his own unique way of blending precision and the speed of the accordion. This accordion player is quite different from other Cajun accordion players.

The fiddle player, David Greely gives life to the old poems and songs. He gives them the required exposure. They have a big fan following and it only keeps increasing with time as they give wonderful music to listen and enjoy. The band brings new audiences to the old traditional songs.

Cajun dance and Cajun music go side by side. The group produces a mixture of songs that compliments different form of dances. Some of the dances that suit their Songs like waltz, swing, cajun jig, two steps, slow dance and zydeco only compliment the beauty of some form of dance.
