Background:
"Smashing Pumpkins" are one of the major alternative rock bands which were prevalent in the early '90s. Their music is least influenced by traditional underground rock. Band's lead guitarist/songwriter Billy Corgan amazingly amalgamated heavy metal, rock, Goth rock, dream pop and psychedelic. The band created a so called layered powerful sound very well driven by distorted and swirling guitars. Actually, Billy Corgan is a son of a jazz guitarist. He grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. At the young age of nineteen he moved to Florida and then started his music journey.

About The Smashing Pumpkins
Though he couldn't make a big impression in south and returned to Chicago. During a club show he met D'Arcy Wretzky, (bassist) and both became friends and soon she joined him to form a band. Soon the line up was completed with James Iha as a guitarist joined them. Then, they began performing and gained a dedicated local following. Before hitting the main concerts the band hired talented jazz musician and full time drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
In 1990, the band issued their maiden single, "I Am One," on a local Chicago label. This single instantly sold out. Then they were signed up with Virgin Records. Though, their debut was released on the Virgin subsidiary Caroline. In the spring of 1991 band hit the music stores with "Black Sabbath" which became a huge college hit. With this album band earned dedicated following and at the end of the year, band performed with the likes of Pearl Jam and Red Hot Chili Peppers. In the summer of 1992, the band issued their next release "Drown."
This release became a reasonable hit. In July 1993, the band issued "Siamese Dream" which became a major hit and went on to debut at number ten on the popular music charts. With this hit band really established them on the main musical scene. The band hit the music charts with Lollapalooza in 1994. With their superb singles like "1979," "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," and "Tonight, Tonight" the band went on to sell over four million copies of their recent release. In 1997, the band recorded two songs for the Hollywood flick "Batman & Robin." `In early-2000 the band issued "MACHINA: The Machines of God. In the summer of 2001, the band hit the roads by playing in some gigs.
