Background:
Sigur Ros is an Icelandic hugely popular post-rock band with minimalist and shoe gazing elements. Actually the name of the band is taken from the Icelandic for "victory rose." In English, they pronounce it as 'Sigur Ros s'. The current line up of the band comprises: Jon por "Jónsi" Birgisson (Vocals, Guitar), Georg "Goggi" Holm (bass guitar), Kjartan "Kjarri" Sveinsson (keyboard), and Orri Páll Dýrason (drums). The band was formed in early 19945; while each member of the band was a teenager. Initially they were three members, then the trio recorded their first song and eventually earned a deal from the Iceland's Bad Taste Label. Their debut LP, "Von" (Hope), released in 1997. Next year saw the collection of some very good remixes by the release "Recycle Bin." In 1999, the band recorded strings-heavy Ágætis Byrjun (Good Start), which acclaimed them various accolades in the Iceland and also achieved platinum status in sales. After the departure of Agust, they hired Orri Pall Dyrason.

heir first international release "Svefn-G-Englar," was released in 1999 and acclaimed as NME's Single of the Week. In 2002 the band issued The "Ný Battery." This proved as a breakout album for the band stretched their reach beyond their homeland. Then British independent Fat Cat started distributing the band. In the same year they met with Godspeed You Black Emperor. The band also performed at the Radio head’s European tour.
In 2001, the band set up their own studio and released their third album "Ágætis Byrjun" under another label in the U.S.; with the release of this album they earned rave reviews from the press worldwide. And both Wires ran and Entertainment Weekly featured the band on its cover. In the same year the band embarked on a tour and performed in Europe and Japan. By the end of the year, their hugely popular release "Ágætis Byrjun" had won the prestigious Shortlist Prize in the category of Artistic Achievement in Music. The album was also declared as the Best Album of the Century in Iceland. In 2002, the band released ( ), it was their third 70-minute album. 2005 saw the release of Takk... (Thanks...).
