About Shawn Colvin
Shawn Colvin was born on January 10, 1956, in Vermillion, SD. She discovered her passion for music at the age of 10 and started teaching herself with a traditional guitar. Shawn got a chance to flourish her talent, when she moved to London and then to Carbondale, Illinois. She decided to form a band and eventually formed one and named it as "Shawn Colvin Band,? with a hard rock outfit that led to high-energy demands. Then she took another decision and moved to Austin, Texas and joined the Western swing band named as Dixie Diesels. In 1983, she moved to New York. It was a learning stage for her as; she interacted with many singers and songwriters. In 1988, she succeeded to found a songwriting partner in John Leventhal. In 1988 ?A live tape sold at gigs? attracted the attention of Columbia Records, and then she got her first offer in the same year. In 1989, she won the prestigious Grammy as a "Best Contemporary Folk Recording" for her album. Shawn has given many memorable hits and chart toppers. In 1998 she won another Grammy Award for "Sunny Came Home" as a "Record of the Year".
Shawn has also recorded with many veterans of the music field like James Taylor, Edwin McCain, Bela Fleck and Shawn Mullins. She has also collaborated with Sting. After a short slum, Colvin returned to music world in 2001 with her new album "Whole New You" and in 2005, she released the summarized compilation of her great songs.
