Background:
They were the active part of the late-'60s blues-rock movement; but this British band could never achieved the kind of attention and respect in their homeland as they received in US, where they launched and promoted their big releases with exhaustive touring. Savoy Brown was formed and led by Kim Simmonds (guitarist), Ray Chappell (bassist), and Leo Manning (drummer). Well the original line up this sizzling band included: keyboardist Bob Hall, singer Bruce Portius, bassist Ray Chappell, guitarist Martin Stone and drummer Leo Manning. Actually this line up of the band was appeared on their debut album "Shake Down," a collection of blues covers, which was released in 1967.

This release did reasonably well, but couldn't grab the desired attention. To seek a different approach and to add up something unique, Simmonds decided to dissolve the band and then brought in bassist Rivers Jobe, guitarist Dave Peverett, singer Chris Youlden and drummer Roger Earl, who gave the band a distinctive front man with his consummate vocal abilities, bowler hat, and monocle. With this strongest line up, the band quickly earned the favor of critics and made a name for itself. Then, they started recording originals like "Train to Nowhere" as well. In 1970, once again the band went through a change as Youlden and Raw Sienna, left the band.
This was a great loss to band: but there was worst to follow as bassist Tony Stevens, Peverett, and Earl quit to form another band “Foghat.” This was a very heartening thing for Simmonds, who was the founder of the band but he didn't give up and collected yet another line up for the band and then embarked on an exhaustive tour of the US. During this tour he showcased the band’s now-refined bluesy and boogie-rock style, which firmly dominated their following albums. Once again in 1973, the band broke up, but as usual re-formed in the following year.
During the late '80's and early '90s', Simmonds, the main force behind the band remained undeterred by a rapidly revolving-door membership and enthusiastically continued to tour and record. With yet another new line up the band released its first album "Strange Dreams," under the Blind Pig Label in 2003. This new line up is consistently performing and garnering the rave reviews since their first release, if you want to know them better, then catch them performing live, just grab your tickets from your on-line ticket vendor and be there.
