Background: Richard Thompson is a guitar player, singer, and songwriter. He is better known as the founding member of Fairport Convention, the British folk-rock ensemble. His songs mostly chronicle the darker side of his life. He ahs studies classical guitar for two years while still in his teens.

Thompson released the album ''Henry The Human Fly'' in 1972, after going solo in 1971. That was also when he started performing with his wife Linda. Their first album was ''I Want To see The Bright Lights Tonight'' which was released in 1974. Together they released six albums in all. Some say those were the best years of his musical life. The other one was for his double CD You? Me? Us? (1996) which was nominated for the Best Contemporary Folk Album.
Thompson has compiled two records with John French, Fred Frith and Henry Kaiser under the title French Frith Kaiser Thompson. He has also appeared many times as a session musician in albums by Bonnie Raitt, Suzanne Vega, and John Kirkpatrick.
Thompson has lately devised and toured for his show 1000 Years Of Popular Music. It is chronological trip through popular music through the ages. The music is performed by Thompson with singer and pianist Judith Owen accompanied by a percussionist. He would typically start with a medieval round and finish with his own version of Britney Spears hit Oops!... I Did It Again. This makes him an entertainer of a different class.
