Philbin has often been remembered for being the hardest working man in the show business. He won the Guinness World Record for his professional excellence as most time spent in front of a television camera. The USP of this great television personality lies in his presentation style – his excited manner, Bronx accent and irreverent ad-libs amongst others. He has hosted world famous television shows that include Live with Regis and Kelly, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Million Dollar Password.
The Regis Philbin Show on KGTV in San Diego, California was his first talk show. He attained national exposure in 1967 while working a sidekick on The Joey Bishop Show on television (1967–1969). He hosted the late night show, Westinghouse Tonight Show from Hollywood in 1964 after the departure of Steve Allen. He co-hosted a local morning talk show on KABC-TV with Sarah Purcell, then with Cyndy Garvey from 1975–1983. His presence boosted this show to a tremendous TRP rating and helping it to reach at the first place.
Philbin and Mary Hart co-hosted a national morning variety series for NBC in 1981 that lasted for 18 weeks. He has also hosted, Lifestyles with Regis Philbin on the Lifetime television network in the 1980. He won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2001 in the category of Outstanding Talk Show Host.
