Razorlight began playing together while they were in grade school. The guitarist used to listen to radio constantly as a child. The drummer was encouraged to play by his middle school teacher. Razorlight began playing at the local club Hobo. The group was influenced by the Animals.

Razorlight accepted they had finally made it as soon as the band’s first fan club was started in 1988 by Jen Gremillion. After the band’s first North American tour, the fan club grew from the couple dozen fans who heard the band play around Pittsburgh to the thousands who heard them play from New York to California.
