Singer/pianist/guitarist Ryan Tedder and lead guitarist Zach Filkins started the band in 2004. Soon after formation the duo shifted to Los Angeles. The duo then added keyboardist Drew Brown, bassist and cellist Brent Kutzle and drummer Eddie Fisher to further strengthen its lineup. The band then signed a recording deal with Sony BMG's Columbia label but soon parted ways with the company without releasing any material. The band was in a dilemma whether to let go or stay and struggle; they got their answer when they realized that they had became one of the most popular bands on MySpace. After hip-hop superstar producer Timbaland established his Mosley Music Group label with Interscope, he signed OneRepublic as his first rock band.

The band finally came into the limelight after Timbaland remixed their ‘Apologize’ for his spring 2007 album ‘Timbaland Presents Shock Value’.

The song became a huge hit and has gone almost 2x platinum. The single reached at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in November 6, 2007 and number three on the U.K. Official Top 40 Week on 11 November 2007.

The original single was also released on radio and online channels as their first single and OneRepublic came out with their highly anticipated full-length debut album ‘Dreaming Out Loud’ in November 2007.
