About Mustard Plug
Formed in 1991, Mustard Plug is one of the most popular and independent Ska bands from Grand Rapids, Michigan. The band regularly tours United States, Europe, Japan and South America. Rough vocals, quick tempo, sing-along choruses, an upstroke guitar technique, distorted guitars, power chords, walking basslines, 4/4 drumming, and peppy horn parts are the characteristics of their songs.
Mustard Plug has evolved as a band after a lot of struggle and hardship. It has survived many lineup changes, and also has managed to sail through the non-existent Ska scene. The difficulties did not deter the band, in fact th(not needed)e their love for Ska Punk music has compelled them to stay true to their sound. When the Ska bands began to fall apart like nine pins, Mustard Plug went ahead and released a CD and even went on tour. They were determined to play the kind of music they loved.
2004 was a year of respite for Ska lovers, Dave Kirchgessner organized the "Ska Is Dead" Tour, which infused new life into the Ska scene. The tour attracted huge crowds across America and Canada. To mark their musical achievements the band decided to release a collection of their most loved works entitled, "Masterpieces: 1991 – 2002." The CD spotlights Mustard Plug's best work from before, during and after the Third Wave Ska craze.
Mustard Plug released their first full-length album "Big Daddy Multitude," in 1993 which catapulted them to national limelight. The band toured throughout the United States for four years in support of their maiden album. They released their highly popular album "Evildoers Beware," in 1997. The album was released just before the frantic peak of the American mainstream acceptance of Ska Punk. The album got an overwhelming reaction from fans and it sold more than 70,000 copies. The album was followed by "Pray for Mojo," which was produced by the famous punk duo, Bill Stevenson and Stephen Egerton. The band came out with their self produced CD, "Yellow #5"in 2002. In 2006 "Masterpieces: 1991-2002," was released.
