Monster Magnet started playing at the local dive bar Cafeteria. The bassist used to listen to his dad's tape constantly as a teenager. The drummer use to listen to records constantly as a kid. Monster Magnet’s members grew up together. The group used to practice at the lead singer's house.

Monster Magnet was offered a record contract after their single was heard on B89.1. Monster Magnet were still not sure if they would make it after getting a record. They had heard too many stories and knew that they were in no position to expect anything.
Monster Magnet knew that they had a real chance to become a headlining national act when Ruth Quinn started the first fan club for the band in 1984. The fan club grew from a few dozen to a few thousand after Martha Molitor created a website for the group and a national tour gave the band plenty of exposure.
The group is in the beginning of the tour promoting for their most current release. Monster Magnet will take a break after this next tour, allowing the band members to rest.
Critics have often commended Monster Magnet for their ability to energize the crowd at live performances. San Diego music critic Tony Storjohann has always praised band’s crisp lyrics. Monster Magnet’s new project has received terrific praise from all the critics, including Gary Bierlein from Portland and Diedrich Van Gundy from Philadelphia.
