Before, Nine Inch Nails stormed the mainstream; Ministry was the biggest contributor in popularizing the industrial dance music. Their music blends the elements of punk, heavy metal guitar riffs and aggression that helps them to find favor with alternative audiences and heavy metal. The founder and frontman Al Jourgensen has given a greater aura of rhythm and style to band than any other industrial bands. The band was formed by Alain Jourgensen in 1981. Music just happened to him when he moved to the US with his mother and started working a radio DJ. >> More alt

About Ministry

Soon, he joined as new wave band "Special Affect." With their new line up the band was renamed as "Ministry." The band issued their debut album "Cold Life" with the Wax Trax. It was more about the synth pop/dance style. In 1983, their next record was issued under the major label Arista. Though Jourgensen was not happy with it and went on to record several singles to contribute in his side project the Revolting Cocks. The year of 1985 saw the release of Ministry's next album. It was released by Sire Records. In 1987, Jourgensen revamped the band with former Blackouts bassist Paul Barker and his fellow ex-Blackouts Mike Scaccia (guitar), William Rieflin (drums) and vocalist Chris Connelly.

With this new line up the band released their next album "The Land of Rape and Honey." This release proved to band's stylistic breakthrough with explosive fusion of industrial dance beats, heavy metal and punk aggression. This successful album was followed by "The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste" in 1989. To support this release the band embarked on an exhaustive tour.

In late 1991, the band released the single "Jesus Built My Hotrod," which was a driving rocker featuring some manic nonsense vocals by Gibby Haynes of the Butthole Surfers. Soon the band issued their full length album "Psalm 69" which consists of few Greek symbols and letters. Soon, the record reached the Top thirty and eventfully went platinum, producing two other smash MTV hits with "Just One Fix," and "N.W.O." In 1999, the band released their next album and the smash hit single "Bad Blood" was featured in the sci-fi special-effects blockbuster Hollywood flick "The Matrix."

In 2000, the band was nominated for a Grammy for "Bad Blood," in 2000. Their other major credits include the filming of a scene for Steven Spielberg's A.I. The band released "Animositisomina" in 2004.
